Cultivating diamonds to “take over” the U.S. engagement ring market

The latest report from The Knot, a wedding resource platform, shows that cultivated diamonds are rapidly dominating the U.S. engagement ring market. In 2025, 61% of consumers will choose cultivated diamonds as the main stone, a surge from 2020.
239%, a sharp increase from the first time in 2024 after breaking through 50%.

The report points out that this trend stems from “economic pragmatism and the evolution of values”, and 40% of consumers clearly stated that the main stone must be cultivated diamonds. The average expenditure on engagement rings in 2025 fell to US44,600 (US55,200 in 2024), but the average number of carats increased to 1.9 carats (1.7 carats in 2024).

In contrast, the average price of a natural diamond ring is US77,000 (1.6 carats, mainly round), while synthetic diamonds only cost US44,300 to get 2 carats (oval is the most popular).
Other trends include: gold demand reached 39%, soaring by 140% in five years; 90% of consumers chose custom designs; 64% insisted on buying in physical stores. The survey covered more than 10,000 couples who got married in 2025.
